The early years of a child’s education are the best time to instill a love of learning. Ridgefield Academy’s Lower School is for students in Kindergarten - Grade 3. These grades learn reading with confidence, writing and art-making as creative expression, and exploring the physical world in science classes. Throughout the school year they perform in age appropriate plays and music concerts.
By Grade 3, Lower School students master basic academic skills through a comprehensive curriculum of math, phonics, spelling, science, social studies, foreign language, and computer technology. Grade 3 students run the Lower School’s Friday morning assemblies.
Lower School students are based in grade-specific rooms in the Summit Building, but they also regularly visit rooms dedicated to science, computing, music, art, digital art, drama, cooking, the gymnasium, and the library. Respect, honesty, fairness and kindness are reinforced both inside and outside the classroom. The Summit hosts a garden, two playgrounds, and our Kitchen Lab.
