A Look at What's Happening at Landmark...

Parent's Night
Thank you to all who joined us for our Parents Night on Tuesday, September 28th. We had about two hundred parents on hand to hear from our special subject teachers and visit their children’s classrooms to learn more about what we do all day! Special thanks to LPA for providing the refreshments, and please come join us for our first LPA meeting, Wednesday, Oct. 6th.

LPA Meeting
Wednesday, October 6th 9:15 AM in our Media Center, little ones are welcome! Come meet our LPA President Missy Zahler, our LPA board, and chat with Director Siobhan Streams. LPA does so many wonderful things for our school, come learn how you can get involved. We have lots of events coming up, we need to plan our Museum Night, some special family Halloween fun and more! We hope you can join us.

Pizza Lunches
Pizza lunches started on Tuesday, September 28th. If you would like your child to participate in the pizza lunch program and have not his/her form in, please do so as soon as possible. If your child does not wish to participate in the pizza lunches, please just send a lunch box as usual. Please note: If your child has a food allergy you may phone Westport Pizzeria at 203-226-4094 for a list of ingredients so that you may determine if your child may participate in our hot lunch program.

Denim Days October 7 & 8
Let’s all do our part to help find a cure! Friday, October 8th is National Denim Day, a fundraiser for breast cancer research. In order to allow all our students to participate, we will have “Denim Days” on both Thursday, October 7th and Friday, October 8th . This will be our first Community Service project of the year, and we hope that parents and students will join our faculty in making a suggested $5.00 donation to the Women’s Cancer Programs of EIF, and wearing jeans to school on Thursday, October 7th and Friday, October 8th. For more information about EIF, visit: www.eifoundation.org. Last year, we raised $1,500 for this great cause.

Museum Night
Not to be confused with “Night at the Museum”, this event will feature artwork created by the budding artists of Landmark. We transform our gym into a chic art gallery which the children take a field trip to during the day with their class, then parents are invited to join us for our “gallery opening” complete with wine and cheese (beret optional). The children are always excited to know that their paintings will be displayed at a special grown-up event. This is a one-night-only opportunity, so be sure to book your sitter and come join us for a chance to enjoy your children’s creative spirit and meet other Landmark families. Thursday, October 14th, 6-8 PM.

Yearbook Committee

Each year our students receive a wonderful yearbook at the end of the school year. The yearbook is created by enthusiastic parent volunteers. If you enjoy photographing little ones and would like to help with this project, please contact Siobhan Streams at sstreams@landmarkpreschool.org. Much of the work can actually be done at your convenience on your home computer. The company that publishes our yearbook has templates and tools to help make it easy. We currently have some volunteers, but are in need of a chairperson to take charge of this project. However you choose to help, all efforts are greatly appreciated!

Open House Dates
Although it seems as if the school year has just begun, it is already time for next year’s families to begin visiting preschools. We find that the families who choose this program for their children have a high degree of commitment to excellence in preschool education. Our program is a great fit for families like yours. If you have a friend who you think would like to know more about our program, please tell them about our upcoming open houses, or they can contact our Admissions Director, Kim McElderry at KMcElderry@landmarkpreschool.org for a personal tour.

After Care
If your child uses After Care, either on a regular or as needed basis, please be sure to make note of the phone number for this after hours program.  After Care can be reached at (203) 515-1147.

Mandarin Club
Back by popular demand, we are once again offering our students in our Fours through Kindergarten the opportunity to explore Chinese language and culture. Classes will be taught by Wei Huang, an instructor with the Chinese Language School of Connecticut. The eight week session will meet Tuesdays, 3:00-3:45 PM from October 12th through November 30th. The cost is $185, please make checks payable to Ridgefield Academy. Registration forms were sent home in your child’s back pack, please call the office if you need another form.

Dad’s Hike
This time of year, we usually have a weekend fall hike at Devil’s Den in Weston with kids and dads. If we have a dad or two who would like to organize this event for us, please contact Siobhan Streams at: sstreams@landmarkpreschool.org

Fall Family Festival
We had a beautiful day for our Fall Family Day at our Ridgefield Campus last Saturday, and saw many of our Westport families enjoying the wonderful activities. Our apologies for a typographical error in one of the flyers, which should have read that the Ridgefield campus is located at 223 West Mountain Road in Ridgefield. For more information please visit: www.ridgefieldacademy.org

Welcome to Our Playground
Please feel free to meet on our lower playground for some after-school playtime, ours is marked with the sign that says “Landmark”. We ask that parents supervise their children to use equipment safely so that we can continue to allow this playground to be open for the enjoyment of all after school. We do have many children with allergies, so please do not serve snacks containing nuts or peanuts. To avoid attracting little critters, we do not have trash cans on the playground, they are located in the lobby by the bathrooms. Please help keep our playground clean and safe by disposing of your trash properly.
