A Look at What's Happening at Landmark...

“If we would build on a sure foundation in friendship, we must love friends for their sake rather than for our own.”

 Security Reminder

Parents are cautioned not to leave valuables unattended in their cars.  There have been a number of thefts in the Westport area in the past year, including several in our parking area.  If you see any suspicious activity, please notify the police immediately. We would like to thank Detective Taylor and Lieutenant Pena for joining us for our LPA meeting to help us understand this problem better.  They emphasized that the most important step in deterring this type of activity is to avoid leaving purses and other valuables in the car.  These items make easy and attractive targets. Please be reassured that we have done a security walkthrough of the school with the Westport police, as well as with private security consultants, and they have assured us that the security measures in the school are excellent.  We will, of course, be cooperating fully with the police in their investigation.

Hot Lunches

Our "hot lunch" program started on Tuesday, September 28th. If you would like your child to participate in this program, it's not too late!  Please stop by the office as soon as possible to complete the necessary form to enroll your child.  If your child does not wish to participate in the hot lunch program, please continue to send a lunch box as usual. Please note: If your child has a food allergy you may phone Westport Pizzeria at 203-226-4094 for a list of ingredients so that you may determine if your child may participate in our hot lunch program.

Denim Days

Friday, October 8th we celebrated National Denim Day; a fundraiser for breast cancer awareness and research.  This was our first Community Service project of the year, and we would like to thank all the families who participated.  Last year, we raised over $1,500 for this campaign, and we are thrilled to be supporting such a worthy cause once again.  For your convenience, we will continue to accept donations through the end of week.

Museum Night

Don’t miss this great event featuring artwork created by the budding artists of Landmark.  We transform our gym into a chic art gallery which the children take a field trip to during the day with their class, then parents are invited to join us for our “gallery opening” complete with wine and cheese for a special evening of art appreciation.  The children are always excited to know that their paintings will be displayed at a special grown-up event.  This is a one-night-only opportunity, so be sure to book your sitter and come join us for a chance to celebrate your children’s creative spirit and meet other Landmark families.  Thursday, October 14th, 6-8 PM.

Toddler Tunes

Our Fun for Ones program has been so popular, we have had requests to offer a music program for the little ones and their caregivers.  We are excited to announce that we will be offering a special session of “Toddler Tunes” for children from ten to twenty-one months.  The sessions will be taught by Paula Darlington, a certified Music Together instructor, who enjoys teaching music to preschoolers and those who love them.  The session will run each Monday from October 25 through November 29th.  If you or someone you know is interested in registering for this program, please call our office at 203-226-6982 or email Fran Scippa at fscippa@landmarkpreschool.org

Open House Dates

Although it seems as if the school year has just begun, it is already time for next year’s families to begin visiting preschools.  We find that the families who choose this program for their children have a high degree of commitment to excellence in preschool education. Our program is a great fit for families like yours.  If you have a friend who you think would like to know more about our program, please tell them about our upcoming open houses, or they can contact our Admissions Director, Kim McElderry at KMcElderry@landmarkpreschool.org  for a personal tour.

Mandarin Club

Back by popular demand, we are once again offering our students in our Fours through Kindergarten the opportunity to explore Chinese language and culture.  Classes will be taught by Wei Huang, an instructor with the Chinese Language School of Connecticut.  The eight week session will meet Tuesdays, 3:00-3:45 PM from October 12th  through November 30th.  The cost is $185, please make checks payable to Ridgefield Academy. Registration forms were sent home in your child’s back pack, please call the office if you need another form.

Halloween Celebrations, Friday, October 29th

Please check your child’s daily sheet for details, as each class has a different schedule.

After Care
If your child uses After Care, either on a regular or as needed basis, please be sure to make note of the phone number for this after hours program.  After Care can be reached (after 4:00 PM) at (203) 515-1147.

Dad’s Hike
This time of year, we usually have a weekend fall hike at Devil’s Den in Weston with kids and dads. If we have a dad or two who would like to organize this event for us, please contact Siobhan Streams at: sstreams@landmarkpreschool.org
