Pumpkin Patch

Thank you to LPA for sponsoring our pumpkin patch! The children are enjoying the festive seasonal decorations, and special thanks go to our pumpkin patch decorating committee for putting it all together: Houdin and Kate Honarvar, Erin Melson, Jessica Holtam, Dina Carlson, Alison Roberts, and Missy Zahler.

LPA Meeting

Please join us for our next LPA meeting on Wednesday, November 10th at 9:15 AM in our Media Center. Little ones are welcome!

Toddler Tunes

Our Fun for Ones program has been so popular, we have had requests to offer a music program for the little ones and their caregivers. We are excited to announce that we will be offering a special session of “Toddler Tunes” for children from ten to twenty-one months. The sessions will be taught by Paula Darlington, a certified Music Together instructor, who enjoys teaching music to preschoolers and those who love them. The session will run each Monday from October 25 through November 29th. If you or someone you know is interested in registering for this program, please call our office at 203-226-6982 or email Fran Scippa at fscippa@landmarkpreschool.org

Open House Dates

Although it seems as if the school year has just begun, it is already time for next year’s families to begin visiting preschools. We find that the families who choose this program for their children have a high degree of commitment to excellence in preschool education. Our program is a great fit for families like yours. If you have a friend who you think would like to know more about our program, please tell them about our upcoming open houses, or they can contact our Admissions Director, Kim McElderry at KMcElderry@landmarkpreschool.org for a personal tour.

Mandarin Club

We are once again offering students in our Fours through Kindergarten the opportunity to explore Chinese language and culture. Classes will be taught by Wei Huang, an instructor with the Chinese Language School of Connecticut. The class meets Tuesdays, 3:00-3:45 PM from October 12th through November 30th, and there are still a few spots available. If you are interested please contact the office at 203-226-6982 or email Fran Scippa at fscippa@landmarkpreschool.org

Halloween Celebrations,  Friday, October 29th

Please check your child’s daily sheet for details, as each class has a different schedule. Following our classroom celebrations, all families are invited to join us for a concert with Tom Weber from 2:00-3:00 in our gym. Sponsored by LPA.

Community Trick or Treat

Our neighbor, the Westport Health Care Center on the corner of Burr and Post Rd., has invited our families to join them for a community trick or treat at the health care center on October 29th from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

A Few Final Thoughts...

"Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art, like the universe itself.  It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things which give value to survival." ~ C.S. Lewis

Did your four year old come home Friday asking you if you had developed an extra layer of "blubber"?

Don't despair!! No, you haven't been nipping into the Halloween candy too much; our Four's classes have been busy learning all about bears and hibernation.  Friday, in Mrs. Simoulidis' class, students had an opportunity to experience first hand what a difference that "extra layer of fat" can make to a polar bear.  Ask your child how cold the ice water felt to their touch at first, and then what a difference they experienced when they were wrapped in their own layer of "blubber" (compliments of a ziploc bag full of Crisco).  What a fun and educational science experiment!

School photos didn't come out quite the way you had hoped?

Or perhaps your child was absent during school photos?  No problem!  Just contact Fran Scippa (fscippa@landmarkpreschool.org) in the main office and we'll add your name to our list of "Retakes."  Our Retake date will be announced soon, so watch this space!
