Yale Study Results

Recently, some of our students participated in several studies with the Social Cognitive Development Lab at Yale University. The results of the studies were very interesting and we'd like to share them with you. In the coming days you will receive a copy of the findings in your child's take home papers; however, you can view the results now in a five-part series on our Facebook
page. If you aren't following us on Facebook yet, see below for a link on where to find us!
Yale would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to our families and students for their participation in these studies.
Reading Buddies
Reading buddies are when two (or more) students read together. This week, older students in Mrs. Carroll's Fives read to younger students in Mrs. Brito's Threes. This program can help model good reading since, as with any skill, reading needs to be practiced regularly.
Reading Buddies allow older students the opportunity to gain self-esteem as well develop fluency and a sense of pride in their reading accomplishments. During this time, they often come to appreciate the value and joy of reading. Repetitious reading of easier books has been shown to improve reading skills in early readers, and this program can provide students with an audience who will appreciate and enjoy these books.
Conversely, younger students can also read to their older buddies, as this allows younger readers to feel a sense of accomplishment while they build fluency. Because the program provides success in literacy, students often become more positive about their ability to read and may also improve their reading skills.

As many of you may know, we recently entered the emerging world of social media by creating a "Landmark Preschool" page on Facebook. As we familiarize ourselves with it's capabilities, we are excited to find more and more ways to keep us connected as a community. To that end, from time to time we would like to post photos of our recent events activities. We would love to showcase all of our families; however, if you would prefer that we not post a photo of you or your child on our page, please email Rebecca Toon (rtoon@landmarkpreschool.org) with that request. All photos will be watermarked and the names of our children will never be used. As always, thank you for your continued support of our school and our community.
Also, if you haven't yet done so, be sure and visit us on Facebook by clicking the link above. You can even "like" us to keep up with recent events, news and share ideas and information. We hope to see you there!
