What's New at Landmark...

Winter Enrichment Clubs

This winter we will once again be offering clubs for both Mandarin and Marital Arts. Sessions for Mandarin have already begun, but there are still a few spots remaining for those interested.  Martial Arts will begin January 26th and availability in this club is limited to 18 students.  For more information, including pricing and registration forms, please visit our website.

Yale Study at Landmark

We are pleased to announce that Landmark of Ridgefield Academy has been selected to participate in a research project being conducted by Yale University. Members of the Yale Social and Cognitive Development Laboratory will be visiting our program on January 23rd and 26th .

Participation in this research is completely voluntary and an informed consent form detailing the purpose of the research and describing the describing the activities the researchers wish to conduct has been sent home in your child’s backpack. Participation is expected to take approximately 20 minutes and researchers will work with the children in our library. Professor Kristina Olson is conducting the study and her contact information is included should you have any questions for her directly.

Please return the permission form that was placed in your child's folder by Friday, January 20th to let us know whether you do or do not wish to have your child participate in the study. No child will be permitted to participate without a signed consent form.  If you did not receive your form, or have misplaced it, you can download it here.

We look forward to the opportunity to work with the research team at Yale, and to learning more about the ways young children view our world.

Join Us for the "Souper Bowl"

As the day of the big game approaches, we will be taking advantage of this opportunity to once again reach out to those in our community who may need a helping hand. This time the theme is soup. Each classroom will have a collection box, and children are asked to bring a can (or more if you like) of soup. We will donate all soup to the Connecticut Food Bank, which distributes supplies throughout our region. The children will use the cans of soup in class for some counting and sorting math activities before we send them on their way. To add to the fun, on February 2nd & 3rd the children and faculty are encouraged to wear sports jerseys (football or any other sport).  Once again we will be asking for volunteers to deliver our soup collection.  If you are interested in volunteering, please email Siobhan (sstreams@landmarkpreschool.org).

Looking for OODLES of Fun During Spring Break?

Well look no further than Landmark Preschool! Once again, Ones Fun Teacher, Dr. Mia Mercurio-Morse, known to Landmark as Ms. Mia has planned two weeks of fun and entertainment for children in our Threes through Kindergarten programs.

The week of March 12th our theme will be "The Luck of the Irish: A Celebration of All Things Green!" The week of March 19th our theme will be "Let's Welcome Spring." The cost of the club will be $365/week/child.  A flyer and registration form will be sent home in your child’s folder next week; register for one week or both!  Space is limited, so be sure and register early.

Admissions Update

Re-enrollment contracts are due to secure your schedule for the next school year. Contact our Director of Admissions, Kim McElderry, if you have any questions or need to replace a lost contract.

Drop-off Circle Reminder

In order to keep our morning drop-off running smoothly and safely, please be mindful of the following:
  • There is no parking in the drop-off circle at any time. This is a fire lane and must be kept clear to allow emergency vehicles access.
  • Please have your child exit on the right side of the car.
  • Walking between vehicles is not safe for children or teachers, especially with snow and ice.
  • Please be cautious as you enter and exit the parking and drop-off areas, the snow banks have made visibility challenging, and our students are short!
  • Please be patient.  We are doing our best to get your children safely into the building under what is sometimes difficult conditions, so it may take a few minutes longer than usual to drop off some days.
Thank you for your support and understanding!

Announcing: The Marriage of Q & U!

It was a letter-perfect wedding. One quiet bride wed one quirky groom. In a quintessential event, Mrs. Brito's class held a wedding ceremony Tuesday for the letters Q and U. The groom carried the letter U and wore a quaint top hat and tails, while the bride carried the letter Q and sported a beautiful quill. The couple was attended by their classmates, who queued up early to wish them well. The ceremony was quite quick, but lovely. Do you, letter Q, take the letter U to be your lawfully wedded letter? "Yes," each answered quietly. What phonics has joined together, let no spelling errors put asunder. When questioned, the couple said they planned on living "Happily Ever After" though we are quite certain they may have borrowed those words from Mrs. Lemieux's 5's as they are studying fairy tales this month.
