Preschool & Lower School Music Teacher (2017-2018) - Ridgefield Campus

Ridgefield Academy/Landmark Preschool seeks a full time Preschool & Lower School Music Teacher for the 2017-2018 academic year.

The Preschool & Lower School Music Teacher is responsible for creating a flexible music program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth appropriate for preschool and lower school students; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation and appreciation for music in accordance with each student’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members.

Primary responsibilities include teaching music to preschool and lower students (Preschool 2’s – Grade 3). Following the Orff model, the school’s music curriculum approaches the teaching of music through imitation, experimentation, and personal expression. An essential goal of our music program is to help students become confident music makers and creative problem solvers. Rich content, creative pedagogy and authentic relationships are essential components of a Ridgefield Academy/Landmark Preschool classroom. The ability to provide those elements, work collaboratively with colleagues, and place children’s interests and experiences at the heart of the classroom are essential components of teaching at our school.

It is important that movement and use of basic musical instruments be incorporated into the music program. It is expected that the third grade students will be taught the soprano recorder which they play during the winter and spring concerts.

In addition to the classroom schedule, the music teacher will responsible for the music during the monthly lower school assembly and for the preschool and lower school concerts. The concerts include Thanksgiving, Winter Holiday and Spring as well as year-end preschool programs and other special events. Preparations for these events include creating the programs and coordinating the set-up and take-downs.

Additional responsibilities include lunch and arrival and/or dismissal duty. There is an opportunity to teach private lessons before or after school hours as long as they do not interfere with the position’s responsibilities.

Qualifications: A BM/BS degree in Music Education, completion of Orff-Schulwerk Levels I and II, teaching experience at the elementary level, and sufficient piano proficiency to accompany choruses are required. An MA/MM in Music Education with an emphasis in voice is preferred.

After-School Program Assistant - Westport Campus

Landmark Preschool’s Westport Campus has an immediate opportunity for an After-School Program Assistant. Hours are 2:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday – Friday. Experience working with children and/or a background in early childhood education or elementary education is required. $18/hour.

On-Call After-School Program Substitute - Westport Campus

Landmark Preschool’s Westport Campus has opportunities for an on on-call substitute for their after school programs. Hours are 2:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday – Friday, as needed. Experience working with children and/or a background in early childhood education is preferred.

Preschool Spanish Teacher - Part-Time - Westport Campus

Landmark Preschool has an excellent opportunity for a Spanish Teacher at our Westport Campus. This is a part-time position, with a Tuesday/Friday schedule, teaching Spanish to three, four and five year old children.

Successful candidates must possess a strong love for children and a willingness to work as part of a team to create positive learning communities within the classroom that acknowledges and respects children’s social and emotional interactions and growth. A minimum of one year of related teaching experience is required.
