Ridgefield Academy is an independent day school in Ridgefield, CT with students in Kindergarten through Grade 8. Our Landmark Preschools have programs for children ages one - five at our Ridgefield, Redding and Westport, CT locations and Bedford, NY.

Faculty Assignments
All faculty are expected to have expertise at the grade level and/or within the subject areas for the position. In addition, it is essential to have demonstrated the ability to create a flexible educational program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth. In addition, it is expected that all employees agree to perform additional assigned duties such as coaching, supervision of student activities and trips, attendance at school events and assignments supporting our service learning program.

Substitute Teaching Assignments

Ridgefield Academy/Landmark Preschool is currently seeking substitute teachers for Preschool (Redding, Ridgefield, Westport and Bedford, NY Campuses) and Kindergarten through 8th Grade (Ridgefield Campus only). Most assignments will be on a daily basis but there are occasional opportunities for longer term assignments.

We are seeking candidates with general subject matter experience for all age and grade levels as well as those who have experience in specific subject areas for our middle and upper schools. Subject areas include: Math, Science, History, English, Technology, World Languages (Spanish and French), Music and Art.

Human Resources Director

Ridgefield Academy has an excellent opportunity for a Human Resources Director. This is a full-time, benefit eligible position.

The Human Resources Director is responsible for the development of Human Resources policies to support Ridgefield Academy’s mission and goals.  The successful candidate will advise and provide support to the Chief Financial Officer and other Ridgefield Academy administrators on human resource-related issues and be responsible for ensuring that Ridgefield Academy is in compliance with regard to local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to employment law for the four campus locations (Ridgefield, Redding, Westport and Bedford, NY).  The HR Director also oversees benefit administration and compliance, compensation, employee relations and other related matters. 

Responsibilities Include

Serve as partner to CFO in monitoring relevant employment trends, and developing, maintaining and executing on a set of key goals & initiatives focused on improving overall organizational effectiveness over time, consistent with Ridgefield Academy’s mission and strategic plan

Compensation and benefits administration and compliance

Review and coordination of annual benefit renewals

Prepare annual budget reports for compensation and benefits, with quarterly updates, as needed

Monitor salary and benefit expenses including monthly invoice reconciliation and biweekly 403(b) processing

Prepare annual employee contracts and contract letters for new hires

Process new hire paperwork, including background checks and other documents

Work in coordination with the Head of School and Chief Financial Officer in regard human resources/personnel-related matters exercising considerable independent judgment to select proper courses of action

Coordinate and present information at annual benefit renewal meetings with eligible employees in group sessions and through individual meetings, as needed, along with mid-year meetings, as required

Employee policy and procedure development, management, documentation and compliance

Work with Ridgefield Academy Administrators regarding the hiring, retention and assignment of faculty

Work with Ridgefield Academy Administrators regarding the development of performance assessment systems

Work with Academy Administrators to ensure that teachers are familiar with and adhere to school policies in all areas of the school operation

Member of the Human Resources Committee of the Board

Member of the Ridgefield Academy Safety Committee

Member of the Fiduciary Investment Committee (403(b) Retirement Plan)

Primary contact for workers’ compensation claims including the filing of claims and handling follow-up concerns

Responsible for the Tuition Management Option reports and Tuition Remission Reports

Work with Associate Head of School and Division Heads in regard to enrollment in planning for staffing.

Employee services and counseling through the Academy’s benefits programs

Coordinate responses to various surveys that Ridgefield Academy participates in

Perform additional school-related duties as needed, and participate in important school events

Additional Requirements of Position

Broad knowledge and experience in employment law, compensation, employee relations, safety, training and development, and compliance

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Excellent interpersonal skills

Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with Ridgefield Academy’s Administrators and Board of Trustees.

Experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs and other Human Resources programs

Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality

Excellent organizational skills

Experience with budgets and financial reports, particularly with regard to personnel matters

Comfortable working with and managing outside legal counsel on personnel and benefits matters

Demonstrated ability to work with others remotely (i.e., on other campuses, vendors and service providers, etc.)

Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment and G-Suite

Education and Experience

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university; Graduate degree preferred

Five to Ten years of progressive experience in Human Resources is required, including knowledge of compensation, benefits, state and federal employment laws and regulations

HR experience in independent school environment preferred; other non-profit HR experience a plus
