Public Speaking & Effective Writing

On the day of graduation, each graduate is invited to make a formal speech that captures the essence of their experience here at our school. They didn’t just learn how to do this in Grade 8, it took years of instruction and practice.

Ridgefield Academy has long since understood the value of strong communication skills and public speaking. At RA, students begin learning early on how to compose well constructed essays and deliver remarks with confidence and poise. It takes deliberate instruction and a great deal of practice.

In Preschool our youngest students pass around a favorite toy and share something about themselves. In Lower School, they continue to build confidence and knowledge as they learn to shape sentences and paragraphs, as well as explore their voice in writing. During the Middle and Upper School years, students present essays, lead all-school assemblies, and perform in class plays.

We invite you to watch the video below for more insight into what our alums and teachers say about their education and exposure.
