Lower School

Welcome to the Lower School at Ridgefield Academy!

When you walk the halls of the Summit Building, you will see many happy faces, both on our teachers and our students. This is a warm and engaging community, and one in which our Lower School students thrive. Children will often be seen literally running from their cars and buses just to get into the building. They love coming to school!

RA’s Lower School is a Kindergarten through Grade 3 experience that gives students the chance to shine in their own personal ways. Our talented faculty and staff devote their careers to becoming experts in this age level, not only in academic needs but developmental as well. The parent/school relationship is paramount, and we work closely with each family through his or her child’s development, seeing this journey as a partnership between home and school.

We offer a complete academic program which is developmentally appropriate and geared to each student. While there are core competencies taught at each grade level, students are met where they are in their learning, then challenged to be their very best selves. Reading, writing, math and social studies are taught in the classroom with a head teacher and an assistant teacher. Students then leave the classroom to attend World Language, Art, Music, Technology, Science and Physical Education. Our teachers work collaboratively so that similar themes or subjects are taught by different means and subjects. Students are given many opportunities during the year to develop public speaking skills and present in front of an audience.

In addition, the development of the whole child is very important to us at RA. We foster social and emotional growth as much as academic skill learning. Teachers take the time to know each child individually and help the students navigate the situations that arise in an age appropriate way.

I hope you will take the time to explore our website and come visit our beautiful campus. It is not to be missed!

Sincerely,
Alison O’Callaghan
