Quote 40 - Alum
"When I first visited campus in second grade, I had never experienced anything like it. All the teachers smiled and said hello to me, and the students welcomed me and let me play with them on the playground. For the first time, I didn’t feel afraid or shy." ~ Sophia Pessoa '25

Quote 39 - Alum
"If there is one thing RA and my peers have taught me, it would be to expect the unexpected. During my middle school years, I feel as if I’ve been able to grow and develop into a teen that isn’t afraid to try new things, and learns as much as possible whilst also laughing at myself as I find joy in the most unexpected things." ~ William Ringrose '23

Quote 38 - Alum
"To me, trying new things has also played a big part in my time at RA. I was nervous about changing schools and going from public school to private school in fifth grade. But after a few weeks, I made a lot of great friends and ended up loving it…

My advice to students at Ridgefield Academy is to take every opportunity you can to try something new because it may open up an exciting passion or skill that you’ll have for the rest of your life." ~ Anderson Pflaum '23

Quote 37 - Alum
“One of the most profound lessons I have learned at RA is the power we all have to be inclusive and make people feel like they belong. Remember, every simple, kind act can make a difference.” ~ Lily Garland ’24

Quote 36 - Alum
“The faculty at RA taught me to celebrate my successes but also to approach any failure or mistake as an opportunity to learn and grow. [They have] taught me to be an avid reader, to polish my craft, to be curious, and to advocate for myself.” ~ Noah Etienne ’21

Quote 35 - Parent
"When we chose RA for our daughter, we were looking for more than just a school—we wanted a place where our child would be known, supported, and encouraged to thrive. From day one, RA felt like the right fit. The teachers are caring and committed, the academics are strong, and the focus on character, kindness, and family partnership sets RA apart. It’s a place where values are shared and community truly matters." ~ Lauren and Chris Geloso P’31

Alexa & Rodrigo | P'25,'31
North Salem, NY & Wellington, FL

The Pessoa family joined Ridgefield Academy / Landmark Preschool in 2019, when their daughters Sophia ’25 and Lulu ’31 were in the 3rd grade and 2s program, respectively. The family was immediately drawn to the warm community and joyful, engaged students.

Both Alexa and Rodrigo, an eight-time Olympian representing Brazil, compete internationally as equestrian show jumpers; own and operate a riding, training, and management company in North Salem—all while raising their young daughters, who are equestrians in their own right. Throughout their time at RA/LP, the girls have accessed the RA@Home program to allow them to balance their schoolwork, their own equestrian events, and the family’s travel schedule. “The school has always made sure this dynamic worked seamlessly, allowing us to work to the highest of our ability and not sacrifice being together as a family.”

The Pessoas are confident in the quality of the education their children are receiving at the school. “It is important to us that our children feel seen for who they are as learners and individuals. We are so grateful for our RA experience!”

Mark & Ludmilar | P'30,'33

Amawalk, NY

Mark and Ludmilar joined Ridgefield Academy with a clear vision: they wanted a school that nurtured their children’s curiosity while providing the right level of challenge. First, Ethan ’30 matriculated in first grade in 2022, followed by Xavier ’33 who started Kindergarten this year. From the start, they were impressed by RA’s thoughtful approach to education—one that recognizes each child’s unique strengths and areas for growth.

“We deeply appreciate the way RA tailors instruction to meet our children where they are, ensuring they feel supported while continuously challenged to thrive,” Mark and Ludmilar share. “The variety of learning activities keeps them engaged, motivated, and excited to learn in ways that suit their individual needs.”

Beyond academics, their family values the strong partnership between their family and the school. “It truly feels like a collaborative effort—RA takes the time to understand our children, fostering a classroom environment where all learners feel valued and capable.” For Mark and Ludmilar, RA’s impact extends far beyond the classroom. “The way RA fosters curiosity, confidence, and a love for learning makes a lasting impression. We are so thankful for RA’s dedicated and thoughtful approach.”
