GET TO KNOW OUR GRADE 8 STUDENTS: ANISEH S.
The word community describes different groups we find ourselves a part of: sports teams, neighborhoods, and schools. Some communities we are members of because of circumstance, where we live, or what sport we play. Other communities we choose to belong to and these are more intentional communities we create for ourselves. In an intentional community, people are often drawn together by a common interest, shared goals, and similar values. It is important for each of us to know what kind of community we want to be a part of.

When I visited RA in third grade, one of the first things I noticed was how welcoming and friendly everyone was and what an inclusive and encouraging environment RA has. I realized that this was the kind of community where I wanted to spend my time. Over my five years here, I have grown as a person, in part because RA is supportive and motivates me to be the best version of myself.

In the final months of school, as we prepare to leave RA, each of us is choosing what school community we will next be a part of. We have all grown so much as a class and as a community, and the last few years have given me a clear image of the type of community I would like to belong to going forward. I think that knowledge is one of the most important things I will take away from my time here. I’m leaving you with a quote from Yehuda Berg, “A true community is not just about being geographically close to someone or part of the same social web network. It’s about feeling connected and responsible for what happens.”
